How to Create a FlexJobs Resume Profile

FlexJobs members have a wealth of benefits, including access to thousands of flexible jobs and a scam-free job search experience.

Not only does our team hand-screen and categorize jobs for you, but we also provide you with tools to find jobs more easily and stand out to employers.

And your FlexJobs resume profile is a crucial piece of your job search. Here’s how to create a FlexJobs resume profile.

Creating a FlexJobs Resume Profile

Below are a few tips to create a resume profile that will help you attract the jobs you want and stand out to employers.

1. Setting Up Your Resume Profile

To set up your resume profile, first, navigate to “My Dashboard.” On the top left, click on “Resumes Profiles.” In the new page, under “Add a New Resume Profile,” click “Create Profile.”

Next, you’ll be prompted to name your resume profile. If you’re unsure of how to get started, you can get inspiration from other members who have shared resume titles that helped them get hired.

Once you’ve selected a resume profile name, hit “Create Profile.” This should bring you to the profile editor. The profile editor is where you can:

  • Add a photo.
  • Fill out your summary, experience, education, skills, and more.
  • Upload your resume.
  • Select what type of flexibility, jobs, and schedule you’re looking for.
  • Add additional details about yourself (like your home office setup or other languages you speak).
  • Attach work samples.

Each section has a “Tips” button in the top right-hand corner that provides guidance on how to optimize a particular section (i.e., your summary). Any field with a red asterisk (*) is a required field.

2. Navigating Your Profile

On the “Resume Profiles” page, under “My Current Resume Profile(s),” you’ll see a list of your resume profiles, including when the profile was last updated and whether the profile is “Active” or “Inactive.”

When you click on a resume profile, you’ll see additional resume profile options:

  • New: Create a new resume profile.
  • Copy: Copy the current resume profile over into a new one.
  • Preview: See what employers see when they view your profile.
  • PDF: Download a PDF copy of your FlexJobs resume profile.
  • Delete: Delete the profile.

From here, you can fill out your profile manually or import your LinkedIn profile, which will pre-fill the fields for you.

3. Your Resume Profile Summary

The first thing you’ll be prompted to add is your resume profile summary. Your summary doesn’t have to be long—just a paragraph or two. However, you’ll want to use the space wisely. Your resume summary is your opportunity to market yourself to a future employer. For example:

Social media specialist with experience in TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. Certified in Facebook Ads. Two years of experience creating Instagram reels and TikTok videos for direct-to-consumer brands. Effectively collaborates with marketing teams to create social media content that increases engagement and helps attain business goals.

4. Job Search Basics

So, you’ve created a resume profile title and written a compelling summary. You’re on your way to being discovered by employers. But before you proceed to the rest of the profile, you need to fill out a section called “My Job Search Basics.”

This section not only signals to employers what you’re looking for (so you don’t get notified about jobs you don’t want), but it also helps FlexJobs better match you with jobs that match your career interests.

Under this section, you can fill out the following information:

  • Keywords (Job titles or skills you want to use in your next job)
  • Categories of Interest (Up to five job categories you’re interested in)
  • Job Types (Employee, Freelance, Temporary)
  • Career Level (Entry-Level, Experienced, Manager, Senior-Level Manager)
  • Education Level (High School Diploma, Some College, Bachelor’s Degree, etc.)
  • Desired Salary/Pay
  • Other Compensation/Benefits Desired
  • Military Status (Active, Veteran, Spouse, etc.)

5. The Rest of the Resume Profile

Under the summary and job search basics are the following fields:

  • Work Experience
  • Work Samples
  • Education
  • Skills
  • Skill Tests
  • Office Setup
  • Language
  • Certifications & Memberships
  • Honors & Awards

Click the “Add” button (+) under each section to enter the information manually. You can also attach your current resume to your profile for employers to access.

6. Skills Tests

The last part of your profile is skills testing. FlexJobs members have access to over 170 free skills tests that can show employers that you have the skills listed on your resume. It’s a great way to stand out to a potential employer. And any tests that you score a 70% or more on will be highlighted on your FlexJobs resume profile.

7. Schedule and Flexibility

On the right side of the page, you’ll see a section called “Schedule & Flexibility.” Here, you can add the job schedules you’re looking for, such as part-time or alternative schedules. You can also add the flexibility options you’re interested in (i.e., remote or freelancing jobs).

Activating and Editing Your FlexJobs Resume Profile

Activating your profile will allow employers to see it and enable you to apply for jobs on the site. On your resume profile, look for the toggle bar at the top. Clicking on the bar will change it to green. If you have filled out all of the required information to activate your profile, the “Active” button will be green, and you’ll be ready to job search and be discovered by great flexible employers!

You can also edit your profile as often as you like. When you access your dashboard and navigate to the resume profile(s) tab, there is an indicator bar that shows you the status of your resume profile. You’ll see how complete it is (50%, 80%, etc.), whether the profile is active or inactive, and when you last updated the profile. Click the resume profile title to edit it.

Get Discovered

Setting up and activating your FlexJobs resume profile is a great way to expand your job search. A strong resume profile allows the FlexJobs database to match you with opportunities that align with your interests, and it helps employers find you during a search.
